cesar--To honor the memory of Cesar Chavez during the first official state celebration of Chavez's birthday, about 1,000 children from the Alum Rock school district marched today Thursday March 29, 2001 from Chavez School to the nearby Mexican Heritage Plaza in East San Jose. Pictured here is a poster of Chavez mounted in a window, reflected onto the crowd of students that gathered in the plaza after their March. This march was expected to be one of the biggest celebrations of the new state holiday that encourages schools to teach their students about the life of the Latino labor leader.

Bingham died aboard flight #93 on September 11, 2001. Bingham was a former Cal rugby player . He and other passengers lost their lives then they struggled with their hijackers and may have averted a calamity like what occurred in New York City and Washington D.C. when flight #93 crashed into a field outside of Pittsburgh, Penn. It's been theorized Bingham and other passengers were nearing taking control of the plane back, so the hijacker at the controls crashed the plane, aborting his plan.

About 50 demonstrators showed up to this peace rally, voicing their support for US military action against terrorism. Thousands met at UC Berkeley to join 150 other campuses around the Nation in what they called a National Day of Action. The Thursday rally and march through downtown Berkeley statred in Sproul Plaza. The 50 counter demonstators showed up, waving flags and holding signs that read, "Whip Terrorism."
